BOG-A-Rama May 2008

This years May-BOG-A-Rama was something very special again .
Besides the crazy heat ( that's why I called it the “Global Cooling “ event )
It started ( like in the past years ) with the arrival of my German buddy Klaus  1 week prior to our big play event .
Since a few years we bean working on different layouts and vehicles to combine trucks , tanks and trains in to 1 big playing field .
BOG-A-Rama April 2007

The challenge on this is always the scale from the different vehicles used , since trucks are mostly in 1/14 scale
( mainly based on Tamiya's truck-line ) , Tanks are mostly 1/16 scale ( mainly Tamiya's ) and the train-stuff is the biggest challenge ,
since G-scale uses 1/29 scale in the US , LGB does it in 1/22 and there is some train-stuff available from Bachmann in 1/20 scale …
The train-stuff needs the most work to make it look right between the trucks and tanks ,
which we had already mastered within the past 2 years .

This year Klaus and myself concentrated on making all the stuff working via my wireless , digital train-control system .
Besides the LGB turn-table , which is of course motorized , which is now installed inside the BOG's cave ( my garage ) ,
we had now a brand-new electrical turntable which is weather-proofed and therefore was installed outside .

This year we didn't setup the gravel-loading-action from last year , we concentrated more on the train-layout
with ware-house and loading areas for the trucks and tanks and digitized everything .

The new stars within the locomotives are 2x Bachmann 2-8-0 outside frame Consolidations ,
which I modified to step up the scale-appearance
to make them look right side by side with the already modified diesel-locomotives ,
and a kit-bashed Mallet which I build out of LGB's Sumpter Valley and the LGB 2085 Mallet .

this here was the proto-type , but since I used here 3 loko's to build this one , I went back to the version shown above

( but since this one is obviously the biggest one , I gone make me a scratch-build cab , to make one like this again ! )

Since this May was extremely hot , we staid inside most of the daytime , building stuff
and did our play-time during the nights.
( therefore I don't have many daytime photos this year , plus we had such a great time ,
that taking photos and videos was almost forgotten by all this play-action )
Within  a week , after killing a countless amount of cows ( steaks on the grill )
and consuming our “usual “ amount of “cooling-liquids “ ( Global Cooling )
we had the new layout almost done for the big play-weekend.

this time we left enough room in the center for driving with the trucks .
one rail-road side-track leads in to the BOGs-cave threw the garage-door to the inside-layout
the wire-less receiver for the DCC system and all switch functions are hidden in the water-tower ,
the loco-shed in the center hides the controls for the new turn-table ..
all is weather-proofed to be left outside !
the electrical turn-table is a modified ( reinforced for heavy locomotives ) version of a Pola-G turn-table
new ware-house setup with plenty of loading-options for trucks and train-cars ,
also electrical , remote un-couplers are installed in all the tracks around the ware-house-setup
the ramp is used to load trucks or tanks on to the rail-road cars

here now some photos from our night-actions :
( I had some more , but my camera-memory-chip went bad )

not showen are photos from the BOG-town which was setup again in the yard
like at the BOG-A-Rama Nov 2007

Unfortunately this year seams to be very hard on all my club-members ,
therefore we had only Bret ( ACE ) and Doug ( AAF-Tank-Museum, Danville , VA ) showing up ,
but you guys would not believe how much play-fun we had just between the 4 of us .
besides the truck and train action we had some intense tank-battles going on ,
especially the night-battles was something to see !
It started getting fogy and the laser-sight of my King Tiger was cutting throw the night like a knife .
Looked awesome !
I took some real cool photos and short videos , but since my camera-chip creped out ,
I have nothing to show here , sorry guys .

Doug was so impressed about all the options which are possible with the combination of train and truck stuff with the tanks ,
that we right away discussed about options how to incorporate all that in to the Danville tank-battle-field ,
and as you can see on the photos from the most recent tank-battle-events in the Danville tank-museum ,
we have it already done in the meantime.

As always , these 2 weeks of play and fun time went by just way to fast ,
but we all had a blast , you can't imagine ( except you have bean there ! )
See you'll at the next BOG-A-Rama !

Also stay tuned for events-updates ,
since you will see a lot of these combined tank-truck and train actions from the BOG's-Cave
in future events at the Danville tank-museum .
