Tank gear-reductions
for the true "Tanker" most of the available 1/16 tank's are way to fast .
WW II tank's didn't had the "rocket" speed as some of the today's tank's .
a Tiger I max speed was just around 38 km/hr = about 24 miles/hour,
( in some documentation's I read also around 40 km/hr = about 25 miles/hour )
with an average off-road speed from 25 km/hr = about 16 miles/hour
a King Tiger's max speed was 35 km/hr = about 22 miles/hour
a Sherman's max speed was 38 km/hr = 24 miles/hour ,
( I always thought the Sherman was faster as the Tiger I , but maybe just off-road ,
I will get me more detailed data on that )
I believe the  T-34 was the fastest with 55km/hr = 34 miles/hour
anyway's , no matter if my data here is absolute corrected one thing is a fact ,
the gearing of most of the available tank-kit's is way to fast .
Tamiya's Tiger I ( with a gear-ratio from 46:1 , old type DMD drives ... )
equals to a scale speed from about 69 km/hr = 43 miles/hour .
You could say now , that why we have a throttle on our remote-controls ,
what is true , but if you run your model like the Tiger I only with 1/2 speed ,
you never get the max out of the engine-sound .
Solution , gear-reduction and slower motor's .

slowing down the old Tamiya tanks with the 1 motor and double clutch setup :
first I looked for a solution for my old Tamiya tanks like the King Tiger ,Leopard, and Gephard.
it was time to test this motor also in the Tanks .

and here 1 more option , using the
original old double-clutch type gear-box but with 2x 380 motors and a DMD controller
( click on photos to see them larger )

new Option: with planetary gearing :

now I wanted to convert my King Tiger ( Porsche Turret , DMD drive's ) to go slower
and more powerfull  .

first I tried this                                                          and it's getting better :
                                                                                       45 degrees incline , no problem !
                                                                                             almost 15 pounds of model-tank !

here now how it looks like installed

the power-plant                                                  extra dirt/dust-guard to protected the gearing

now here the more "down to earth"
  DMD drive gear-reduction with stock 380 motor's

smaller gear-reductions ( as the ones I used for my King Tiger ) for the stock 380 motors .
so far it will fit for the Tiger 1 / King Tiger and even the Sherman , and of course any other tank what has the same space as the tanks mentioned .
I know there is this one gear-reduction available , but since I bean trying to get a set of them since month's , I decided to finish up my own design .
They are figured now that you can set them up with different gear-ratios , by simply using different pinions on the output shaft and different motor pinions to adjust the desired speed .

Example Tiger 1 :
original gear-ratio : 46:1 with original 10 tooth motor pinion .
scale speed 69 km/hr

possible gear-ratios tested :
100:1 with 12 tooth motor pinion and 13 tooth output gear
scale speed 31.9 km/hr
check out my video :

I drove exact 50 feet in 31 seconds what = to a scale-speed from 28.3 km/hr or 17.6 miles/hr

120:1 with original 10 tooth motor pinion and 13 tooth output gear
scale speed 26.5 km/hr

130:1 with original 10 tooth motor pinion and 12 tooth output gear
scale speed 24 km/hr

142:1 with original 10 tooth motor pinion and 11 tooth output gear
scale speed 22.5 km/hr

I would be able to make these gear-reductions up for sale , if there is any interested .
I could offer them for $ 65.- ( if I get enought request's ! )
 plus 6.50 S/H priority-mail / insured within the USA ,
oversee's to most places would be $ 9.- via Global priority mail

excepted for the Sherman , it will not require any modifications to the Tamiya gear-box ,
it's a straight bolt on kit .
The modification to the Sherman gear-box is easy , but I would over to do that too .
In that case you would have to send me your gear-boxes and I would do the modification and install the gear-reductions .
in that case I was thinking about $ 95 .- plus S/H

Sherman with low RPM motor's
as an alternative to gear-reductions , I tested a few slower motor's ,
but only good for the Sherman , not for the larger heavier tank's ,
( even thought I still prefare the gear-reductions, just more power ! )
Sherman video 6.13 MB !!!

NEW : gear-reduction for new style gear-boxes
still in the works , but soon available ...
shown here on the new style Sherman gear-boxes
  new style gear-box gear-reduction
first I have to figure the right gear-ratio and also how much space I have in the new Sherman ,
but so far it look's like it should work out .
I will also check about the Pershing and the new King Tiger ,
stay tuned and check back again !
